Provisional ballots ( https://www.elections.virginia.gov/registration/same-day-voter-registration/)provide a way for individuals whose voter registrations or qualifications have not been confirmed prior to voting. These ballots – which are identical to regular ballots – are handled separately at all times and sealed in a green envelope by election officials.
Following the election, election officials will review each provisional ballot to determine if the vote will be counted. If the voter is deemed qualified, the ballot will be added back into the mix with the regular ballots. All provisional ballots must be reviewed within seven days of Election Day.

Important Note on 2022 Redistricting:
Every ten years when the United States takes a census, voting districts are redrawn, as required by law. As a result, all voting districts for federal, state and local elections were redrawn. Your district(s) may or may not have changed.
Each registered voter in Fairfax County is covered by four different voting districts:
-
Federal for U.S. Congress
-
Virginia state Senate
-
Virginia House of Delegates
-
Magisterial district for county representatives on the Board of Supervisors and FCPS School Board.
Also in 2022, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted to rename the Lee Magisterial District as the Franconia District.
